Pedal Straps Are Attacking Our President--and That's Unacceptable!
by Greg Davis, President, CEO, and Founder, Vectus Sport

Back in June, President Joe Biden was enjoying bike ride near his Delaware home.  As he pulled up to a group of reporters and admirers, he slowed to a stop…and then toppled over, hitting the ground with considerable force.  While not hurt, it was quite embarrassing—and unacceptable for the leader of the free world.

Why did he fall?  He failed to extricate himself from the toe-cage basket straps that lashed his feet to the pedals.  Toe cages are notoriously dangerous and difficult to use, especially for inexperienced or occasional riders who aren’t used to them. It’s a common occurrence—and one that’s completely unavoidable.

Some have suggested the president switch to clipless pedals, which require special shoes that virtually lock your feet to the pedals.  The only way to escape is to aggressively and forcefully twist your feet to release the clips—not a recipe for success, especially for riders who can’t even manage toe-cage basket straps.

There is better answer:  VTR-10 Trail & Road Pedals featuring True-Release technology from Vectus Sport.  Like basket straps and clipless pedals, the VTR-10 secures the rider’s foot to the pedal, enabling a full 360-degree stroke.  Unlike those other solutions, however, the Vectus pedal accomplishes this by lowering a comfortable spring-loaded, form-fitting cuff over the rider’s foot.  True-Release technology immediately releases the cuff the second the foot is slipped out the back or side.  The rider is never strapped or locked to the bike, ensuring an easy—and safe—dismount.  No special shoes are required, either; riders—including the president—can use whatever footwear they want, from tennis shoes to wing tips.

In addition to the VTR-10, designed for road and trail use, Vectus Sport also offers a version for stationary, spin, and recumbent bikes used in gyms or the home: the VFS-10 Fitness Series Pedal.  Using the same True-Release technology, the VFS-10 ensures a comfortable and robust workout without the need for special shoes or other equipment.

The VFS-10 is available now at www.vectussport.com.  The VTR-10 is currently under development and will be available in Fall 2022, ensuring a safe ride for the president, first lady, secret service, and anyone else out enjoying the changing of the leaves.
